DeleD Going Open Source
As some of you may already know, Delgine are going to be making DeleD an open source project in January 2010. In light of this development, they are withdrawing their sponsorship of the PGD Annual as everyone will be able to get their hands on DeleD for free in the new year.

I'm sure we would all like to wish them well with their plans, and to thank them for their past support of the PGD Annual.

Competition Site Update
I had hoped to get the scoring system online this weekend so the judges can cast there eye over the stage 1 submissions. But when I've been looking at doing this, I've found a couple of things I'm not happy with in the system database design. For obvious reasons, I can't just dive in and change things on the live system, so I'm taking my time with the next stage of development to make sure I get it right.

Not too late to signup
Well, we've had a few signups over the last couple of days, so I think it's time to remind the new signups that its not too late to enter this years competition. Stage 1 has only just finished, we're on the coding stage, and you now have until 26th September to create your entry. So, if you want to compete, give it a go.

Reporting bugs and some updates
Instead of reporting problems directly to me via the main PGD site or by email, please read the 'Bugs' page and follow the instructions there to report the issues using our issue tracker (full details provided on the 'Bugs' page). This will make it easier for me to keep track of potential problems and it will also allow you to see whats being done about issues.

Wiki online
Hi all,

To try and make everyones life easier, I've setup a wiki for the competition site, it is located at http://wiki.pgdannual.com. Clicking the 'Help' button will also take you there. It's a bit bare at the moment, but I'm hoping to get some more content in there over the course of the next week or so when I fancy a break from coding :-)

Uploads and Google Chrome
Following a report of a failed upload, it appears that Google's Chrome doesn't supply MIME type information (I'm not sure whether it doesn't supply it at all or whether it uses a different mechanism, either way PHP doesn't like it).

So, if you're using Chrome and you can't upload, use a different browser.

Mail to me
I can't stress this enough... if you are going to send me an email about the competition, the site etc., please please please put PGD2009 in the subject line otherwise it's likely to get eaten by my spam filters.

Thanks

File uploads enabled
Hi all,

The file upload facilities are now mostly complete. Each stage can be configured to request a design archive, install archive, source archive and screenshot. Each successive upload will overwrite the last one you uploaded for that stage. The exception to this is screenshots where the system will only retain the last one you uploaded (not one for each stage like the other types).

The file size limits are specified in the general terms and conditions. You can only upload ZIP, RAR and TAR.GZ archives (any problems with these not working, let me know ASAP) and JPEG, PNG and GIF images for the screenshots (maximum dimensions are in the general terms and conditions).

Please note:- The screenshot upload is not quite finished.

A quick how-to...
Hi everyone, to get things running smoothly, it's been suggested that I might like to provide a quick how-to for the site... I'll try and get a more permanent one setup during the next round of updates which will hopefully take place during the week.

First up... signup an account. You should receive an activation email from the system which will also provide you with a record of your login details. There is an activation link in the mail... click it to activate your account. Once thats done, login.

The next stage is to create a team... you have to be a team leader to enter a competition. Once you've done that, goto the 'Competitions' page, select the competition you want to enter... there should be drop down to select the team you wish to enter in the competition.. pick the one you want to enter with and click 'Enter'. And thats it... you're in.

If you've been invited to judge, there will be a link on the competition page to accept or reject the invitation. Also, if you're going to judge, you should provide your machine specifications using the 'My Machines' page. There are some instructions on the page telling you how to get the OpenGL and DirectX information.

Hidden bits and other info
Welcome to the new competition site... it's not all finished yet, and I still have plenty to do, but it's open for signups and team building (you need a team to enter the competition).

I should perhape point out that some information is hidden away in collapsable sections... if there's something that will expand, look for links with + in front of them. A good example are the competition rules... scroll down the page and expand the bit you want to look at.

Any problems, look at the Bugs page.

Good luck to everyone who is competing, lets make this years competition a good one. As the organiser of this years competition, if there are any problems or issues you need help with, drop me a mail, but please put PGD2009 in the subject... if you don't, my spam filter will probably get rid of it.
